Tales of the ancient Crow Spirit have been passed down through stories and folklore since time immemorial.   A wide variety of abilities and powers have been attributed to her, but across the myths and legends, certain common threads emerge.   Among them is the widespread belief in the Spirit as a guide or ally who exists beyond time and space.   Some think her to be the courier of messages from the spirit world, while others see her as the keeper of sacred law.   But all agree that the appearance of the Crow Spirit is a powerful omen of change.   And those who do not take steps to abandon old ways in his presence, do so at their own risk.   The spirit often facilitates a change through a shift in consciousness.   She helps a person to see things about which no other human could enlighten them.   By carrying a person beyond the boundaries of themselves, a new reality is possible.

The spirit is said to be particularly attracted to loners, those who seem to prefer spending time by themselves.   She helps direct these people toward that which is unjust, out of harmony, or out of balance in either themselves or their world.   As the keeper of sacred law, the Crow Spirit is imbued with a higher order of right and wrong than what has been deemed so by a particular culture.   Those who can embrace the change that the crow spirit brings learn to be mindful of their own opinions and actions, and to use personal integrity as their guide.   However, if the collective myth is to be believed, those who can not embrace the Spirit's change enough to see their own life's mission, those unwilling to enter the void, will perish.
